Black Specks In Cat Fur

Black specks in cat fur. Black dandruff due to feline acne just because their skin is covered in fur doesnt mean it is impossible for them to develop spots. What typically happens is owners notice that there is this black coffee grind like flecks in the cats fur. My cat has dandruff and black specks in his fur signs of fleas. It can be caused by external factors such as seborrhea or internal factors such as diabetes.

Oh so its just a little dirt. One way to differentiate between regular dirt and flea dirt is to wet any black specks that fall off the cat onto the white paper towel using regular water sprinkled on the specks. However if you notice an excessive amount of dandruff andor other symptoms see a veterinarian. Dandruff is more evident in cats with dark coats.

Comb some of these specks off the cat with a cat flea comb collect it on a tissue or paper towel and then add a drop or two of water. Most cases of dandruff are harmless. If they turn a dark reddish brown color you are seeing the digested blood that the flea has passed through its body and excreted. Quite commonly pet owners sometimes mistake them for flea poop on a cats chin and take their kitties to the vet.

When these spots are predominantly located underneath the cats chin it is likely a case of acne. What does stand out is the blackheads which actually arent attached to the skin just to the cats fur. Thats not so bad youre thinking. There are other reasons for black specks on cat skin which arent fleas.

The black stuff that black stuff in your kittys fur is known as flea dirt. If these specks appear to bleed then this is digested flea blood and your cat has fleas even though you cannot see them.
